A beautiful view of the archaeological area of the Roman Theater in the medieval town of Gubbio, in Umbria. The amphitheater, completed by the magistrate Gneo Satrio Rufo around 20 BC. in the ancient nucleus of Iguvium (the Roman name of Gubbio), it was built with large limestone blocks worked in rustic ashlar. It has two orders of arches, of which the lower order and some arches corresponding to the upper gallery remain standing. An important town ally of Ancient Rome and built on the communication routes between the Tyrrhenian coast and the Adriatic coast of Italy, Gubbio is famous for its artistic treasures and considered one of the most beautiful medieval villages in Italy. This Umbrian town is also known for the life of St. Francis of Assisi and the miracle of the encounter between him and a wolf, and for the spectacular Festa dei Ceri. The Umbria region, considered the green lung of Italy for its wooded mountains, is characterized by a perfect integration between nature and the presence of man, in a context of environmental sustainability and healthy life. In addition to its immense artistic and historical heritage, Umbria is famous for its food and wine production and for the quality of the olive oil produced in these lands.
