The ex-Frisco railroad locomotive no. 4500 was built in Philadelphia, Pa. in November, 1942 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works. It was assigned to pull the passenger train “METEOR” from c, Mo. thru Tulsa to Oklahoma City and back on a daily basis.

Evanston, WY - May 8, 2019: The Union Pacific Big Boy steam locomotive, wheel arrangement 4-8-8-4, is teamed up with 4-8-4, UP #844, on a double-header steam trip to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the driving of the Golden Spike.  On a cold, wet and snowy morninging departure from Evanston, WY, the steam locomotives teamed up for one of the steamiest views ever captured!

Rusting parts of the “The Last Train to Nowhere” on the Arctic tundra near Safety Sound south of Nome, Alaska. The steamship Aztec delivered three locomotives, track, and railroad ties to the site in 1903, and the Council City & Solomon River railroad was born.  Construction stopped in 1906 after 35 miles of track were laid and the gold ore ran out. The old locomotives and scattered derelict parts are all that remain.
