Indian pipe (Monotropa uniflora) flower heads from above. A wildflower not a mushroom, in the New England forest in midsummer. With one flower on each stem, this is one of the few plants that lack chlorophyll (which makes plants green). It can live in dark forests because it needs no sunlight for photosynthesis.
