The ancient Dacian ruins at Sarmizegetusa Regia, in the Transylvania region of Romania. Sarmizegetusa Regia was the capital and the most important military, religious and political centre of the Dacians prior to the wars with the Roman Empire. Erected on top of a 1200 m high mountain, the fortress, comprising six citadels, was the core of a strategic defensive system in the Orăştie Mountains (in present-day Romania). Stevns limestone cliff is now on the Unesco world heritage tentative list. A 5 to 10 cm layer of fish clay between the bottom and top layer of the cliff contains an unearthly large amount of Iridium, thought to stem from an asteroid impact 65 million years ago - the impact that eradicated the dinosaurs. Study of the cliff was key in establishing this theory.
