Colombia, Laguna de Guatavita - This is the lake that the colonial Spanish and others tried to drain in search of gold that was said to have been thrown into the lake during various religious ceremonies of the Muisca people. In spite of cutting a wedge into one side of the surrounding mountains, they only managed to lower the level of the lake a little bit. They found a few artifacts on the lake shores.
