Bruges, Belgium - June 22, 2012: The Belfry (Belltower) in Market Square (Markt) in historic city center. It is a medieval bell tower that  formerly housed a treasury and the municipal archives, and served as an observation post for spotting fires and other danger. In the 16th century the tower received a carillon, allowing the bells to be played by means of a hand keyboard. Bruges has most of its medieval architecture intact and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000. Tourists are walking around.

Old VOC sailing ship Halve Maen at the river IJssel during the 2018 Sail Kampen event in the Hanseatic league city of Kampen in Overijssel, The Netherlands. The Halve Maen was a trading ship of the Dutch East India Company (Dutch: Verenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie or VOC) and sailed into what is now New York Harbor in September 1609 during a search for a western passage to China. The building was designed by Francis Johnson in the neoclassical Greek Revival style and completed in 1818.  It is the headquarters of An Post, the government owned national postal service.  During the 1916 Easter Rising, a pivotal moment in the struggle for Irish independence from Great Britain, the building became the headquarters for the rebellion.  It was destroyed by the British forces and rebuilt in 1929 by the Irish Free State.
