Vessels of this type are equipped with powerful machinery to withstand the adverse weather conditions that often prevail in offshore rig areas. The Maldivian Coast Guard is the naval or maritime arm of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF). As the Maldives does not have a navy, the Coast Guard also functions as such.
