Tropical storm Fiona is slow to gather strength east of the Leeward Islands of the Caribbean. Significant westerly wind shear is preventing rapid growth, but the warm waters continue to generate strong convection east of the center represented in the bright colors in this satellite image.

Hurricane Fiona becomes a dangerous category 4 storm over the Atlantic south of Bermuda. This colorful infrared satellite image belies the power and strength of this tropical storm. The brighter tops show higher clouds with the black in the northwest quadrant being the coldest / highest. A well developed eye has formed with banded upper outflow depicted in this satellite imagery.
The Triangulum Galaxy is a spiral galaxy 2.73 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Triangulum. It is catalogued as Messier 33 or NGC 598. The Triangulum Galaxy is the third-largest member of the Local Group of galaxies, behind the Andromeda Galaxy and the Milky Way.

Andromeda is our nearest spiral galaxy neighbor at about 2.5 million light years away, and contains about 1 billion stars. It is larger but less dense than our own Milky Way.

Fiona becomes a hurricane in the Caribbean south of Puerto Rico. Wind shear has relaxed enough for the tropical storm to become hurricane Fiona. The hurricane is expected to be slow to develop further as it interacts with the island but could become a major storm later in the week of September 18 as it enters the open Atlantic.
