$Tall, green, not mealy perennial; stems erect, hairy. Basal leaves oval to oblong, with a heart-shaped base, long stalked, dark green above, paler beneath, thinly hairy; upper leaves smaller, almost unstalked. La Grita city is the nearest town to these remote moorlands that are difficult to get to with mountains the exceeds the 3,000 meters above sea level mark. This periglacial lagoon is at 3,400 masl and has 400 meteres in diameter. To see this magnificent gift of nature you have to drive about 20 minutes from La Grita up to the highest paved road of Tachira State in Osorio; then, take two more hours of driving with off road vehicle through the mountains; and finally, there is a two hours hike under severe conditions like small narrow steep rocky gorges, low oxygen level due to the altitue, cold foggy weather and high hills. The scene is magnificent, worth every effort in getting there.
