A priestess stands at left with a sacrificial bull.\n\nA detail from a sacrificial scene shows a bull being brought to the omphalos - Made up of a stone and a snake it represents the navel of the world - Apollo plays the zither.\n\nThe ancient Greeks also used omphalos to refer to a sacred, rounded stone in the Temple of Apollo at Delphi that was supposed to mark the center of the earth.

A beautiful view of the archaeological area of the Roman Theater in the medieval town of Gubbio, in Umbria. The amphitheater, completed by the magistrate Gneo Satrio Rufo around 20 BC. in the ancient nucleus of Iguvium (the Roman name of Gubbio), it was built with large limestone blocks worked in rustic ashlar. It has two orders of arches, of which the lower order and some arches corresponding to the upper gallery remain standing. An important town ally of Ancient Rome and built on the communication routes between the Tyrrhenian coast and the Adriatic coast of Italy, Gubbio is famous for its artistic treasures and considered one of the most beautiful medieval villages in Italy.
