There are five lamps in this gloriously Victorian cluster outside Tooting Broadway Underground station in London SW17. In its time, this edifice performed three functions: as street lighting; as a signpost (directions to Wimbledon and to London are shown here); and finally, the air vents at the bottom provided ventilation for public toilets (no longer there). Its importance as a piece of 19th century history is recognised by its Grade II listed status.
