New Hampshire's Old Man of the Mountain..  First discovered by surveyors in 1805, the Old Man quickly became a New Hampshire tourist attraction,  as both local's and visitors alike flocked to Franconia to get a glimpse at the state's Cannon Mountain landmark.  Sometime between May first and May third of 2003, the granite ledges making up the Old Man gave way and collapsed downward leaving only a shear cliff behind.  The image of the Old Man of The Mountain has lived on as New Hampshire's Iconic state emblem, appearing on highway signs, drivers licenses, license plates, and on the reverse of the state quarter.
