The lark sparrow, or Passer domesticus, is looking to the left providing a full body profile. The field marks are distinctive and striking. Its plumage is a high contrast of white, black, rust, tan, gray and brown. The detail is extreme and shows the bumps of the eyering. This bird is an uncommon visitor to the East Coast of North America where is was spotted in Massachusetts.
The Lark Sparrow (Chondestes grammacus) is a fairly large North American sparrow and member of the genus Chondestes. This songbird breeds in southern Canada, much of the United States, and northern Mexico. The lark sparrow adult has a dark-streaked brown back, and white underparts except for a dark central spot. Juveniles are duller, and the underparts are streaked. Lark sparrows forage on the ground or in low bushes, eating seeds, but also insects in the breeding season. The breeding habitat is a variety of open areas including grasslands and cultivated areas. Lark sparrows nest on the ground, laying their eggs in a grass cup nest in grass or other vegetation.
