The species suffered a decline in the mid-20th century; since the early 1960s, its area of distribution has halved. the Dutch Monitoring Scheme shows a moderate decline in numbers since 1990. The species is classified as 'susceptible' on the 2006 Red List.Brown Argus Butterfly occurs on nutrient-poor grasslands on dry, sandy soils in an open landscape, as in the (coastal) dunes and along dykes, roads and railways tracks.Several species of Geraniaceae are used as larval food plant. The species flies in two generations from early May until early September, and hibernates as a half-grown caterpillar. This Picture is made during a Vacation in Bulgaria in May 2018.

Lesser Fiery Copper Butterfly / Latin species name: Lycaena thersamon
The margins of Cathedral City are only partially developed, as a result, the locale is still home to many indigenous species. One such constituent is a butterfly known to Entomology (the study of insects) as Vanessa Cardui, and commonly as the Painted Lady. Their beautiful wing patterns can be visualized here as they flit to and from flowering plants, feeding on nectar and spreading pollen. They are blessed with abundance this Spring, due to an especially wet Winter. This caused numerous native plants to thrive, and the insects happily obliged. Long may the area remain a habitat for Pre Contact ecology.
Polyommatus icarus is a common resident in the Netherlands.\nHabitat: The species occurs in a variety of flower-rich places, irrespective of nutrient level, pH or humidity. habitats include waste ground, grasslands and roadside verges.\nFood plants: Several species of Fabaceae serve as larval food plant.\nFlight Season: Common Blue flies in two, sometimes three generations from mid-May until the end of August, and hibernates as a half-grown caterpillar.\nDistribution: A common species in a great part of Europe, except the north of Scandinavia.\n\nThis Butterfly is one of the most common Blue Butterflies in the Netherlands.
Brownies are butterflies of the Lycaenidae family. The are active during the day.
