This is Bronze Replica ( 1912 ) . \nOriginal sculpture is attributed to Bernt Notke and was commissioned by the Swedish regent Sten Sture the Elder. It was inaugurated in 1489.
At each corner of the base of the column is a statue of a putto. The four putte are each depicted fighting a different animal and symbolize the overcoming of adversity by the city: war is represented by the lion, plague by the rooster, hunger or famine by the dragon and heresy by the snake.
