Night view of a drawing carved in stone by a primitive man in the desert in southern Israel near the Avdat fortress
Nearly a thousand years ago natives inhabited the lower elevations around the San Francisco Peaks of Arizona. In an area so dry it would seem impossible to live, they built pueblos, harvested rainwater, grew crops and raised families. Today the remnants of their villages dot the landscape along with their other artifacts. These petroglyphs were found on Magnetic Mesa in Wupatki National Monument near Flagstaff, Arizona, USA.

The excursion to the blue puddle in Chulilla is by far the route with the most history and one of the most beautiful and with the most anecdotes to tell.\n\nPhilology tells us that the blue puddle takes its name from the term Arabic origin azud, which indicates the presence of a small dam in the area, used to irrigate the orchard adjacent to the town. If we look closely we will still be able to observe some remains of stalking that depart right from this point.\n\nThe road to the blue puddle is an easy route to travel and is quite unmarked so it is not easy to miss. There are two possible roads, one that would start in the southern part of the town, which is the most recommended for those who do not want to walk a lot or climb slopes, since they can park nearby (down in the river) and save the return climb. This road is born from a road that is located by the municipal pool and before reaching the cemetery. We will meet in the lower part of the town known as the barranquillo neighbourhood. We can move forward and go down almost to river level, the ideal place to park our vehicle near the wastewater treatment plant. Once there, we have to follow the path on our right. This option would give us a chance to fully witness the sickles of the Turia River\n\nThe other road goes down the north side of the town towards the river and we can start it with a street near the Plaza de la baronia, the central square of Chulilla where there are several bars. It is perfectly indicated its route through the streets of the town and then there is no loss, always down and up. We can also ask the locals who will kindly answer us.

Newspaper Rock State Historic Monument, located in southeastern Utah close to the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park, has sandstone rock faces covered with petroglyphs drawn over 2,000 years ago by Anasazi, Pueblo and Archaic Native Americans. The drawings consist of peoples, animals and symbols and were created in the desert varnish that builds up on the walls of the sandstone when iron and manganese from rainfall and bacteria are deposited.
