On the left is the exterior of the Hanse House in St Margaret’s Lane in King’s Lynn, Norfolk, Eastern England. The Hanse House was acquired by German merchants in the late 15th century and is one of the oldest buildings in King’s Lynn; it was once a Hanseatic warehouse where goods from the Baltic region were stored and traded. Once known as the ‘Steelyard’ from the German ‘Stalhof’, it is the only surviving Hanseatic building in England, although many alterations have been made over the centuries.
