Eiffel Tower in summer season with flowers blooming, Paris. France
The Eiffel Tower, named for French architect Gustave Eiffel, was initially built to serve as the entrance gateway to the International Exposition of 1889. Reaching 330 metres (1,083 ft) in the air, it is a testament to the French industrial architectural style. The Eiffel Tower is the most recognized symbol of Paris — and indeed all of France. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the most visited attraction with an entrance fee in the world.\n\nCuriously, the Eiffel Tower was not well received by Parisians when it was first built, particularly among the artistic and intellectual community of the day.
