The arched entrance into the Jerusalem Old City Arab quarter and marketplace bazaar, near Church of Holy Sepulchre, Western Wall and Dome of the Rock. Jerusalem's Old City market has been around in some form or another for hundreds of years. You'll find the suk sprawled along the streets of the Old City's Christian and Muslim Quarters. You can access the Christian Quarter section of the suk from Jaffa Gate or the Muslim Quarter suk from Damascus Gate.

The Southern Wall, built by King Herod the Great in the first century BCE as part of his expansion project of the Temple Mount served as the main entrance to one of the ancient world's largest sanctuaries. After Rome destroyed Jerusalem and the Second Temple at the height of the Great Jewish Revolt in 70 CE, the Temple Mount was mostly neglected until the 7th–8th centuries CE, when Islamic conquerors initiated construction projects there, including the Dome of the Rock and the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The post-1967 excavations uncovered a complex of Umayyad administrative buildings and palaces south of the Southern Wall, which have been carefully preserved as part of the archaeological park.

The Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem with the top of the Wailing Wall on the right. The Dome of the Rock is a shrine located on the Temple Mount in the Old City of Jerusalem. It was initially completed in 691 CE at the order of Umayyad Caliph Abd al-Malik during the Second Fitna. The Dome of the Rock is now one of the oldest works of Islamic architecture. It has been called 'Jerusalem's most recognizable landmark'. The octagonal plan of the structure may have been influenced by the Byzantine Chapel of St Mary (also known as Kathisma and al-Qadismu) built between 451 and 458 on the road between Jerusalem and Bethlehem.
