The light of the sunset illuminates the sky of Rome and the silhouette of the Altare della Patria. The Altar della Patria or Vittoriano is the Italian National Monument built between the Capitoline Hill (Campidoglio) and Piazza Venezia in 1885 in honor of the first king of Italy, Victor Emmanuel II (equestrian statue in the photo). Inside is the monument to the Unknown Soldier, the National Memorial dedicated to all the Italian soldiers who died in the war. The Altare della Patria is the setting for all Italian official celebrations, in particular the National Day of the Republic on 2 June and the Liberation Day on 25 April.
