The Rio Grande River originates in the San Juan Mountains of south-central Colorado. It flows 1,896 miles through Colorado, New Mexico and Texas where it is the international border between the United States and Mexico. It eventually empties into the Gulf of Mexico. In northern New Mexico the river flows 50 miles through a tectonic chasm known as the Rio Grande Gorge. In 2013 the gorge and 242,500 acres of surrounding land was designated as the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument. This fall scene was photographed in the gorge south of Taos, New Mexico, USA.

These photos of Canyonlands National Park in Utah capture the vast, rugged beauty of this remarkable landscape. The images highlight the park's intricate network of canyons, mesas, and buttes carved by the Colorado and Green Rivers. The dramatic contrasts between the deep, shadowed canyons and the sunlit, towering rock formations create a breathtaking and almost otherworldly scene. Some photos showcase iconic viewpoints like Grand View Point, offering sweeping panoramas of the endless canyons and plateaus stretching to the horizon. Others reveal the unique geological features of the park, such as the Maze's labyrinthine rock formations and the Island in the Sky's sheer cliff edges. The vibrant reds, oranges, and browns of the sandstone formations are particularly striking against the clear blue sky. These images beautifully convey the raw, untamed beauty of Canyonlands National Park, illustrating its vastness and the awe-inspiring power of natural erosion and time.

The Granite Dells are a geological feature characterized by exposed granite rock formations that have been sculpted by wind and water over millions of years into unusual shapes and patterns. The term “dells” refers to the valleys or low areas between the granite formations. Nestled among these natural wonders lies Watson Lake, a reservoir formed in 1915 when early settlers dammed Granite Creek. This juxtaposition of geological history and human intervention creates a serene oasis, inviting visitors to ponder the passage of time and marvel at the forces of nature. Watson Lake and the Granite Dells are in Prescott, Arizona, USA.
