Kerkyra Korfu, Greece\nJune, 2019\nThe neoclassical castle was built between 1828 and 1832 on behalf of the English Governor of the Ionian Republic Sir Frederick Adam, to whom it served as a summer residence from 1831. After the end of the British Protectorate and the unification of the Ionian Islands with the Kingdom of Greece in 1864, the site was left for use by the Greek royal family and was given its present name. The last time King Constantine II lived in the castle was before he went into exile in 1967. It stood empty for a long time; it was not until 1994 that the site was awarded to the Greek State in a dispute before the European Court of Justice. The castle has been renovated and the park is open to visitors.\n\nThe castle now houses a museum. Mon Repos is best known for the birth of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, in 1921.

Agios Giorgios Bay and harbour, Island of Corfu, Greece. Corfu, or Korkyra, lies to the west of the Greek and Albanian mainland and separates the Adriatic from the Ionian Seas. Largely formed from Limestone, the island measuring some thirty miles by 18 miles is now a tourist destination, known for its beaches, climate and olives. Medieval castles and ancient ruins chart the military history of the island back to ancient Greek mythology.
