Rome, Italy, November 02 -- The church of the Santissima Trinità dei Monti dominates the monumental staircase of Trinità dei Monti, also known as the Spanish Steps, in the historic and baroque heart of the Eternal City. Built starting from 1502 in the Renaissance style, this church was commissioned by Charles VIII, King of France, to give a stable accommodation to the religious Order of the Minims. In 1570 the façade was rebuilt based on a design by the architects Giacomo Della Porta and Carlo Maderno, with the construction of the two characteristic bell towers. A masterpiece of the late Roman Baroque, the monumental staircase of the Trinità dei Monti was built in 1721 to connect the church with the underlying Piazza di Spagna. Designed by the architect and urban planner Francesco De Sanctis, the Spanish Steps were inaugurated by Pope Benedict XIII on the occasion of the Jubilee of 1725. In 1980 the historic center of Rome was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. Super wide angle and high definition image.

People visible outside the entrance of the commercial museum known as Palazzo Pitti at Florence in Tuscany, Italy. It's a primarily Renaissance residence dating from 1458 and began as the home of Luca Pitti, a prolific Florentine banker. The Medicis purchased the palace in 1549 and it became the seat of the dynasties of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany. Napoleon used the palace as a base in the late 1700s and in 1919 King Victor Emmanuel gave the palace and its contents to the Italian people. Hitler and a Nazi delegation visited Palazzo Pitti and the associated Boboli Gardens for a tour in May 1938 and to attend a concert in October 1940.

Rome, Italy, February 10 -- A warm ray of sun at sunset illuminates the Fontana della Barcaccia at the foot of the monumental stairway of Trinità dei Monti, or Spanish Steps, in the baroque heart of Rome, with dozens of tourists around. This iconic fountain in Rome was finished in 1629 by the architect and sculptor Pietro Bernini, father of the more famous Gian Lorenzo Bernini, commissioned by Pope Urban VIII. According to tradition, Gian Lorenzo himself participated in the final construction of the fountain on the death of his father in 1629. A masterpiece of the late Roman Baroque, the monumental stairway of the Trinità dei Monti (Spanish Steps) was built in 1721 to connect the church of the Santissima Trinità dei Monti (top in the photo) with the Piazza di Spagna (Spanish Square). Designed by the architect and urban planner Francesco De Sanctis, the Spanish Steps were inaugurated by Pope Benedict XIII on the occasion of the Jubilee of 1725.
