The ancient statue of St. Paul the Apostle at the southern entrance of Ponte Sant'Angelo, created in 1535 during the pontificate of Pope Clement VII. This bridge was built under the emperor Hadrian in 134 AD. to connect the heart of Rome with his mausoleum, currently Castel Sant'Angelo, on the background. In 1669, under the pontificate of Pope Clement IX, the balustrade was built based on a project by Giovanni Lorenzo Bernini, on which ten statues of the Angels of the Passion of Christ were placed, made in the same year by the pupils of Bernini himself.
