The Restoration contains links to the restoring to the throne of the Stuart monarch Charles II in 1660. The pub dates back to 1616 during the reign of the first Stuart king, James I. The name Black Boy refers to those who worked in the coal mines or chimney sweeps or perhaps even the fact that Charles II had a darker-hued skin than his predecessors.
