Two cubs, usus arctos, are clamming on the beach in Alaska.  The cubs are imitating behavior they have learned from their mother  and searching for clams of their own.  Bears can smell clams under the sand.  When they find one, they dig quickly trying the catch the clam before it is able to go deeper and escape.  Clams are one source of food for these hungry bears during hyperphagia.  Others include, berries, fish, sedge grasses and insects among others.
