The splendid façade of Palazzo Vecchio with the Arnolfo Tower and a portion of the Uffizi Gallery, in the historic and medieval heart of Florence, in Tuscany. Palazzo Vecchio, built between 1299 and 1314 as the seat of the Priors of the Arts, the representatives of the professional guilds that governed the medieval city, was transformed from 1540 into the seat and symbol of the Medici family's rule by Grand Duke Cosimo I. Even today it is the seat of the Municipality of Florence (Town Hall) and of the city government. The Uffizi Gallery is one of the most important museums in the world. Built between 1560 and 1581 at the behest of the Medici family to house the new offices (Uffizi) of the Florentine government, the Uffizi building now houses one of the greatest artistic heritages in the world, with works of art by Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Sandro Botticelli, Titian, Pontormo, Bronzino, Giotto di Bondone, Caravaggio, Dürer, Rubens, among others. Since 1982 the historic center of Florence has been declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. Image in high definition format.
