The Great Sphinx of Giza, Giza Necropolis, Egypt - July 27, 2022: The Great Sphinx of Giza is a limestone statue of a reclining sphinx, a mythical creature with the head of a human, and the body of a lion. Facing directly from west to east, it stands on the Giza Plateau on the west bank of the Nile in Giza, Egypt. The face of the Sphinx appears to represent the pharaoh Khafre.\n\nThe original shape of the Sphinx was cut from the bedrock, and has since been restored with layers of limestone blocks. It measures 73 m (240 ft) long from paw to tail, 20 m (66 ft) high from the base to the top of the head and 19 m (62 ft) wide at its rear haunches.[4] Its nose was broken off for unknown reasons between the 3rd and 10th centuries AD.\n\nThe Sphinx is the oldest known monumental sculpture in Egypt and one of the most recognisable statues in the world. The archaeological evidence suggests that it was created by ancient Egyptians of the Old Kingdom during the reign of Khafre (c. 2558–2532 BC).

Memphis, Egypt - July 19, 2022: The Sphinx of Memphis is a stone sphinx located near the remains of Memphis, Egypt. It was discovered in 1912 when an affiliate from the British School in America spotted a uniquely carved object jutting out of a sand hill.\nThe carving was believed to take place between 1700 and 1400 BC, which was during the 18th Dynasty. It is unknown which pharaoh is being honored and there are no inscriptions to supply information. The facial features imply that the Sphinx is honoring Hatshepsut or Amenhotep II or Amenhotep III. l.

The River Nile has always and continues to be a lifeline for Egypt. Trade, communication, agriculture, water and now tourism provide the essential ingredients of life - from the Upper Nile and its cataracts, along its fertile banks to the Lower Nile and Delta. In many ways life has not changed for centuries, with transport often relying on the camel on land and felucca on the river - or by balloon if you are a modern-day tourist
