It is located in the Theban Necropolis in Upper Egypt, on the west of the River Nile, across from the modern city of Luxor. The name – or at least its French form Rhamesséion – was coined by Jean-François Champollion, who visited the ruins of the site in 1829 and first identified the hieroglyphs making up Ramesses's names and titles on the walls.

Karnak Temple, Luxor, Egypt - July 21, 2022: The Karnak Temple Complex, commonly known as Karnak comprises a vast mix of decayed temples, pylons, chapels, and other buildings near Luxor, Egypt. Construction at the complex began during the reign of Senusret I (reigned 1971–1926 BCE) in the Middle Kingdom (around 2000–1700 BCE) and continued into the Ptolemaic Kingdom (305–30 BCE), although most of the extant buildings date from the New Kingdom. \n\nIt is part of the monumental city of Thebes (Luxor), and in 1979 it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List along with the rest of the city.

In fact, camels are especially suited to a desert habitat and were a vital means of transport for passengers and cargo in the ancient Egypt.\n\nAll three of Giza's pyramids and their elaborate burial complexes were built from roughly 2550 to 2490 B.C. The pyramids were built by Pharaohs Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure.
