It is the second largest monument to a writer in the world, after the José Martí monument in Havana. It is located in Edinburgh's Princes Street Gardens, opposite the former Jenners building on Princes Street and close to Edinburgh Waverley Railway Station, named after Scott's Waverley novels.\n\nEdinburgh is the capital city of Scotland and one of its 32 council areas. The city is located in south-east Scotland, and is bounded to the north by the Firth of Forth estuary and to the south by the Pentland Hills. Edinburgh had a population of 506,520 in mid-2020, making it the second-most populous city in Scotland and the seventh-most populous in the United Kingdom.
