The mountain, as most of the other large mounds of the Driftless Area, is an outlier of Niagara  Escarpments. The viewer provides a guidance to locate Madison, the capitol of Wisconsin, Devil's Lake State Park , a glacial lake between an  ancient hills which are formed of quartzite rock, and many other places of South Wisconsin.
