The 1783 earthquake destroyed the shrine. 74 years later, another apparition of the Virgin took place and in 1858 another miracle occured: a man was healed at his legs drinking the water of a source in the place of the ancient shrine. On 8 May of the same year, the bishopric of Squillace authorized the reconstruction of the church, which was completed and consecrated on 8 September 1858.$
