Monument to Christopher Columbus -Monumento a Cristóbal Colón at the Avenida Costanera waterfront.The monument to Christopher Columbus is located in the city of Buenos Aires, on the coast of the Río de La Plata, at the height of the Jorge Newbery Airport in the Puerto Argentino breakwater. Until June 2013 it was located in Parque Colón, between the Casa Rosada and the circular Avenida de la Rábida.The Central column of the monument is made of a single block and at the top is the statue of Christopher Columbus, which weighs 38 tons and is 6.25 m high. The statue is carved out of the famous marble from Cararra. The sculptures at the foot of the monument are mythological characters of the Greek playwright Sophocles, representing `Science`, `Genius`, `Ocean`and ` Civilization`.
