Morchella esculenta mushroom in green grass
Orangeroter Becherling, Narancsvörös (narancssárga) csészegomba, Pézize orangée, Orange Peel Fungus Aleuria aurantia (Fr.) Fuckel syn. Peziza aurantia Fr. Cup 0.5–10cm across, cup shaped becoming wavy and flattened, inner surface bright yellowish-orange, outer whitish, covered in fine white down visible under a hand lens. Flesh thin and brittle, whitish. Asci 220×13µ, not blued by iodine. Spores elliptical and coarsely reticulate, containing two oil drops, 17–24×9–11µ. Habitat gregarious, on bare soil, or amongst grass in lawns or at roadsides. Season early autumn to early winter. Common. Edible. Distribution, America and Europe (source R. Bracket fungus (a mushroom) on beech tree, bottom view. Scientific name: Polyporus alveolaris. Common name: Hexagonal-pored polypore. Range: Found mainly in North America but also occurs in Asia, Australia and Europe. Here growing on a dead American beech sapling in the Connecticut woods, autumn.
A stunning close up of some tiny fungus, growing on a rotting tree branch. It is remarkable how much these resemble coral and this could easily have been taken underwater. This tiny fungus was no bigger than 1cm and its coral like texture only became visible when I looked at the image on a large screen.

Cup 3–8cm across, cup-shaped, irregularly wavy with age, sessile, inner surface olive-brown, outer reddish-brown and slightly scurfy. Flesh thin, reddish-brown, yielding watery juice. Asci 330 x 15µ, blued at the tip by iodine. Spores elliptical, containing two oil drops, irregularly reticulate, 17–20 x 9–12µ. Habitat on soil especially on open clay banks or paths. Season late summer to autumn. Common. Edible when well cooked, poisonous if eaten raw. Distribution, America and Europe (source R.Phillips).\n\nThis is a quite common Species in the Netherlands.
