A photograph of a tree skink (tree-crevice skink) on a granite boulder in central western NSW, Australia. The tail of the skink has been lost and re-grown. It is rare to see this phenomenon in the wild. Tree skinks live in trees or rock crevices - they may be confused with several closely related and similar looking species. The tree crevice skink is often solitary but can form closely knit groups on granite outcrops and occasionally large, mature gum trees. They are often seen basking in the sun and will disappear into a crevice when disturbed.
