In the field, males may be noticed because they seldom become as deeply red as other species and have a rather parallel-sided abdomen.\nHabitat: Wide range of places, especially preferring warm, stagnant waters. These are often shallow and bare, this species being a pioneer of newly created ponds. Occasionally in flowing or brackish water.\nFlight Season: May be seen all year in the Mediterranean. In Northern Europe, appears from early June, becoming abundant in July and flying into November.
