Crataegus monogyna, known as common hawthorn, oneseed hawthorn, or single-seeded hawthorn, is a species of hawthorn native to Europe, northwest Africa and western Asia. It can be an invasive weed.

Many small white flowers and green leaves of Crataegus monogyna plant, known as common or oneseed hawthorn, or single-seeded hawthorn, in a forest in a sunny spring day, outdoor botanical background
The flower is Abelia × grandiflora, which is a cross between A. chinensis and A. uniflora. It is a rounded, spreading, multi-stemmed shrub in the honeysuckle family. The plant features clusters of white to pink, bell-shaped flowers which appear in the upper leaf axils and stem ends over a long period from late spring to autumn. Flowers are fragrant.

Shrub or small Tree, 2-10m tall, branches usually spiny. Leaves wedge shaped, deeply 3-7 lobed. Flowers white or sometimes pinkish, 8-15mm, styles generally 1. Berry red with a mealy exterior, 8-10mm, oval in outline, containing a single Stone fruit.

The white hawthorn blossom, also known as 'may' and 'whitethorn', starts to appear at the end of April here in London. This photograph features flowers, buds and leaves. The Latin name for the hawthorn is (Crataegus monogyna). Hawthorn is omitted from some guides to British trees because it often grows to less than 20 feet (3 metres) in height.
