Dakar (Plateau), Senegal: wide panorama of the center of the Senegalese capital with the harbor on the right and the Mamelles hills on the left - The French occupation in this area was first concentrated on the island of Gorée. In 1857 Governor Pinet-Laprade planned a city on the tip of the Cape-Verde peninsula, with a large port and a train station linking it to Saint-Louis (capital of French West Africa until 1902). It was the capital of the Federation of Mali between 1959 and 1960, later becoming the capital of Senegal.
