Badlands National Park is in South Dakota. Its dramatic landscapes span layered rock formations, steep canyons and towering spires. Bison, bighorn sheep and prairie dogs inhabit its sprawling grasslands.

New Hampshire's Old Man of the Mountain.. First discovered by surveyors in 1805, the Old Man quickly became a New Hampshire tourist attraction, as both local's and visitors alike flocked to Franconia to get a glimpse at the state's Cannon Mountain landmark. Sometime between May first and May third of 2003, the granite ledges making up the Old Man gave way and collapsed downward leaving only a shear cliff behind. The image of the Old Man of The Mountain has lived on as New Hampshire's Iconic state emblem, appearing on highway signs, drivers licenses, license plates, and on the reverse of the state quarter.

$An overcast photo of the Lady of Lourdes Grotto/Shrine just before it was torn down in 2008. The trees to the right of it were chopped down and the stumps removed. The farmers have begun working the field to plant crops. The sky is dark and overcast with incoming rain. \nThe grotto was built on the Lourdes Farm, just south of Lethbridge, on Highway 4, owned by the ‘Brothers of Lourdes”. They were a charitable organization from Holland made up of clergy from the Roman Catholic Church. \nThe Grotto/Shrine seen here was built by them in 1955. Modelled after the Shrine of Lourdes in France, it was built with 2X4 wood pieces firmly nailed together and draped with burlap dipped in a concrete slurry. A statue of the Virgin Mary sat in the opening near the top. The bottom opening contained a small alter and candle racks with kneeler benches outside. The grotto was the location of religious ceremonies and was also open for people to worship and light candles. The fence was put in by new owners. Originally there was a turn off from the highway and an area to park.$

This natural rock formation is beautiful! Can you see the Faces? The location of this rock formation is not very far from my home in Northern Ontario. Way back in the early 70's there was blasting being do to widen the highway in this area. The intention was to blast this rock out also. However; protest from local citizens urged the Department of Highways in Ontario to reverse the decision. This rock formation has been admired by curious on lookers for generations.

Canyon Fortaleza, has full public access. There is no charge for any entry fee. Itaimbezinho is also a completely public National Park. They are only areas of environmental protection. The INEA is just a state regional institute ( only has jurisdiction within the state of Rio de Janeiro, which is only a state of the 27 Brazilian states - Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina are the states to the south of Brazil, far from Rio It is like comparing distances from the State of California to Florida, more or less, and in relation to state parks) - unrelated to national parks.$
