Concord, Massachusetts, USA - March 2, 2024: The Old Manse is a historic manse in Concord, Massachusetts notable for its literary associations. The Old Manse was built in 1770 for the Rev. William Emerson, father of minister William Emerson and grandfather of transcendentalist writer and lecturer Ralph Waldo Emerson. n 1842, the American writer Nathaniel Hawthorne rented the Old Manse for $100 a year. The Old Manse The house is located on Monument Street, with the Concord River just behind it. The property neighbors the North Bridge, a part of Minute Man National Historical Park. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966 and is open to the public as a nonprofit museum.

Vintage photograph of Osborne House, Isle of Wight, 19th Century. The house was built between 1845 and 1851 for Queen Victoria and Prince Albert as a summer home and rural retreat. Prince Albert designed the house himself in the style of an Italian Renaissance palazzo.
The Italian gardens were a gift from Prince Albert to Queen Victoria. Prince Albert introduced an Italian garden at Osborne House. In 1860 he brought the idea to Kensington Gardens.

It is named after Peter L. Malkin, who helped fund the refurbishment of the building in 1985.
