Venice, Veneto, Italy - Jan 23rd, 2024: The chancel, the gothic altar, the apostles statues and the presbytery inside of St. Mark's basilica
A majestic view of the high altar with ciborium inside the Basilica di Santa Cecilia (St. Cecilia Basilica), in the ancient Trastevere district, in the historic heart of Rome. According to legend, this church was built starting from the 5th century in the place where St. Cecilia was martyred, in 220 AD. The church took on its current Baroque style after some transformations made in the 16th century. The marble statue of Santa Cecilia placed under the altar, made in 1599 by the sculptor Stefano Maderno, depicts the body of the saint covered by a veil, as it was found in her original tomb in the ancient perimeter of the church. Trastevere is an iconic district of the Eternal City, due to the presence of countless artistic and historical treasures, monuments and ancient Romanesque and Baroque churches, but also for its squares and alleys to be explored freely, where it is easy to find typical restaurants, pubs, small shops of artisans and scenes of daily life with the original Roman soul. In 1980 the historic center of Rome was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. Super wide angle image in high definition format.
