Much branched shrub or small tree, 2-6m, hairless; twigs green, square in section. Leaves opposite, lanceolate to elliptical, pointed, finely toothed. Flowers greenish, 8-10mm, usually 4 parted, several borne in branched cymes. Capsules bright pink, 4-lobed, 10-15mm, pendent, spitting to reveal orange seeds. The Fruit is Poisonous.\nHabitat: Woods and scrub mostly on calcareous soils.\nFlowering Season: May-June.\nDistribution: Throughout Europe, except the far north.\n\nThis is a quite common Species in the Sand Dunes along the Dutch Coast and River Area. Otherwise also planted in Parks and Gardens.
