Giant Buddha niche at Yungang Grottoes, ancient Chinese Buddhist temple grottoes built during the Northern Wei dynasty near the city of Datong, in the province of Shanxi. They are excellent examples of rock-cut architecture and one of the three most famous ancient Buddhist sculptural sites of China. The others are Longmen and Mogao.

Datong, Shanxi, China- March 2, 2013: The Yungang Grottoes, in Datong city, Shanxi Province, with their 252 caves and 51,000 statues, represent the outstanding achievement of Buddhist cave art in China in the 5th and 6th centuries. Together with Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang and Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang, the Yungang Grottoes site is one of the three leading grottoes locations in China. The Yungang Grottoes were enrolled as World Heritage by UNESCO in 2011. Here is the major buddist statue on site.

The small caves around the Bamiyan Buddhas were known as \
Takht-e Rustam, Aybak, Samangan Province, Afghanistan: hill side entrances to the cave system of Takht-e Rustam Buddhist complex reflected on the melting snow, part of a stupa-monastery dating from the Kushano-Sasanian period 4th-5th century AD - under the Kushans, Buddhism was practiced throughout Afghanistan.
