Bissau, Guinea-Bissau: Simão Mendes National Hospital, main hospital for the country, also a teaching hospital - Pansau na Isna Avenue. The hospital traces its origin to a Portuguese hospital established in the area in 1690. The current building dates from 1951, designed by the architect Mário de Oliveira of the Colonial Urbanization Office ('Gabinete de Urbanização Colonial').

The city of Matadi at the Congo River.  Matadi is the chief sea port of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the capital of the Kongo Central province and was founded in 1879 by Sir Henry Morton Stanley. The town is also known for the Matadi suspension bridge, the only bridge crossing the Congo River from the river mouth up to more than 3800 km. The bridge was built in 1983 by Japanese companies and has a span of 520 m.
Bamako is the capital and largest city of Mali, with a population of 1.8 million. In 2006, it was estimated to be the fastest-growing city in Africa and sixth-fastest in the world. It is located on the Niger River, near the rapids that divide the upper and middle Niger valleys in the southwestern part of the country.
