In large aggregations, Yellow Sea Cucumbers Colochirus robustus are often misidentified as corals. Colochirus robustus occurs in the tropical Central Indo-Pacific in a depth range from 1-25m, max. length 7cm. When feeding, the species extends the branchy feeding arms into the current. There are multiple reproduction options; instead of spawning, when getting large, the species can split into two: In a few days, the head end is ready to leave, whilst the rear end takes about a week to grow an own head! \nThese specimen aggregate on an old whip coral overgrown by sponges, hydroids and ascidians. \nTriton Bay, Indonesia \n3°55'0.858 S 134°6'6.102 E at 12m depth

Giant Barrel Sponge Xestospongia testudinaria occurs widely distributed in the tropical Indo-Pacific in a depth range from 2-50m. Specimen in the intertidal zones remain small with 10-20cm diameter, below they can grow to impressing sizes, measuring up to 2.4 meters in height and width. The life span of these filter animals is many hundreds of years. These three or four specimens emerge from a common base, this is often found. Two Moonwrasses Thalassoma lunare in the blue, a Dwarf Hawkfish Cirrhitichthys falco sitting on the sponge and a Silverspot Squirrelfish Sargocentron caudimaculatum under the sponge. There are a lot of Sinularia Leather Coral there, but the yellow Gorgonian Corals dominate the scenery. \nGorgonian sea fans are Cnidarians that build colonies in branching formations that usually are fan-shaped, thus the common name. Gorgonians are octocorals: each polyp has eight pinnate tentacles which it uses to capture nutrients suspended in the water column. They are seen most often on reef crests, or jutting out from drop-offs or steep banks in locations where natural currents will sweep plankton and other organic nutrients across the polyps tentacles. \n\nTriton Bay, Kaimana Regency, West Papua Province, Indonesia, \n3°57'58.68 S 134°9'6.27 E at 13m depth
