Hanging inside a window in All Saints Church, Burnham Thorpe, in Norfolk, Eastern England, is an old (and now very sheer) British Union Jack flag. All Saints is rather special, being the church attended by Horatio, later Lord, Nelson during his childhood and also where he was baptised by his father Edmund, who was the rector of Burnham Thorpe - Horatio Nelson was born and baptised in the village. The church was originally built in the 13th century but was renovated in the 1840s and further restored in 1905 in commemoration of the centenary of Lord Nelson’s victory at the Battle of Trafalgar. The Admiralty presented timbers from Nelson’s ship, HMS Victory, to build the altar, lectern and rood screen. The church has the unique right to fly a White Ensign from its tower, which it does for Trafalgar Day on 21st October each year.
