This is a form of cypress (possibly Chamaecyparis) planted in a garden in Surrey, England. The leafy branches give a sweeping upright impression, and the whole photograph forms an even-textured dark green background. Soft cypress wood was used in Italy in medieval times for furniture and musical instruments. Cypress chests and boxes were imported into England in numbers during the 15th and 16th Centuries, when they were known as 'Cyprus' boxes.

Acer platanoides is a deciduous tree, growing to 20–30 m (65–100 ft) tall with a trunk up to 1.5 m (5 ft) in diameter, and a broad, rounded crown. The bark is grey-brown and shallowly grooved.
