This picture was taken by my grandfather in 1929 while on holiday in Sydney, Australia. Construction of the Sydney Harbour Bridge commenced in 1923 and was completed in 1932. Also known locally as “the coat hanger” and simple “the bridge”, the Sydney Harbour Bridge carries rail, vehicle and pedestrian traffic between the Sydney central business district and the North Shore. The view of the bridge, harbour and nearby Sydney Opera House is now an iconic image of Sydney. The graininess of the photo only adds to the history, age and romance of this image.
