Cosimo I de' Medici was the Duke of Florence and the first Grand Duke of Tuscany. Florence is the capital city of the region of Tuscany. It was established by Julius Caesar in 59 BC and was a centre of medieval European trade and finance and one of the wealthiest cities of the time.
