John the Baptist was born to Zechariah and Elizabeth a few months before Jesus was born. He lived in the desert. He wore clothes made of camel hair and ate locusts and honey. God called John to tell the Jewish people that they could be saved by turning from their sins and being baptized. John told of God’s plan for salvation and that a Messiah was coming. He baptized those who became believers. Jesus went to the Jordan River where John was baptizing people and asked that John baptize him. John realized that Jesus was the Messiah and baptized him.

The oracle predicts the death of Admetus.\nAlcestis, in Greek legend, the beautiful daughter of Pelias, king of Iolcos. She is the heroine of the eponymous play by the dramatist Euripides ( c. 484–406 bce ). According to legend, the god Apollo helped Admetus, son of the king of Pherae, to harness a lion and a boar to a chariot in order to win Alcestis's hand.
